A friend recently posted this quote on Facebook, “It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life, to wait until your ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as a good a time as any.”
I do believe the southern term for that phrase could arguably be called “trial by fire,” and I assure you, I have had many of those. But what I was notorious for waiting for was just simply living. If I only had the house, the car, the status, then I could start living. I was wrong. Sometimes it takes losing everything before you finally realize what is really important, generally speaking. I am relieved to say, despite all of my faults and negativity, that I finally decided to start living a few years ago, and I haven’t regretted the decision.
